Alex Ferguson times it to perfection at Newbury

04-12-2017

It was amusing to see someone tweeting that Sir Alex Ferguson won at Newbury on Saturday but perhaps our amateur jockey Alex Ferguson should be knighted after such a polished performance when winning the Ladbrokes Intermediate Hurdle (the Gerry Feilden) for his grandmother Mrs Margaret Ferguson with her Ben Pauling trained HIGH BRIDGE.

Making all, Alex made a decisive move in quickening the pace after jumping the third from home and his horse responded to his urgings after the last to stay on and deny Noel Fehily on Nicky Henderson’s Charli Parcs by 1 1/4 lengths.

Alex’s father John Ferguson said “I’m proud of the horse, the team and Alexander. We no longer have Bloomfields and I wanted my mother to have the fun, but I don’t know about the prize money! This is very special. Alexander is making his way and wants to make a career of it.”

Trainer Ben Pauling said “The best thing about this is the confidence Alex has ridden him with against seasoned pros. He’s had to make the running and has made the right calls at the right time. He’s a young lad who is taking his opportunities and he’s done that. I’m thrilled for him.”

Huge congratulations to Alex and to his family and winning connections on this great success.

Alex Edwards and Brodie Hampson double at Hereford

29-11-2017

It was good to see racing resumed at Hereford on Wednesday, the first of their two meetings this season having been transferred to Worcester because of firm ground.
Gary Hanmer sent out High Counsel for the Level Peaks Associates Handicap Chase ridden by Alex Edwards. Despite taking a keen hold early on and overcoming a mistake two out as well as hanging to the left as they approached the last, Alex drove his horse out to win by half a length. Congratulations to connections and well done Alex!

The biggest field of the day saw 15 to go to post for The Brecon Carreg ROA/Racing Post Owners Jackpot Handicap Hurdle. Many congratulations to Brodie Hampson on a great ride for John O’Shea on Cougar Kid. Holding her horse up, Brodie began to make a move three from home, smoothly taking the lead after 2 out and pushed clear on the flat to win by 7 lengths from Noel Fehily on Schnabel.
Many congratulations to winning connections.

What a great day for amateur jockeys!

Simon Walker masterclass at Southwell

28-11-2017

Action on the All-Weather at Southwell on Tuesday with the sunsets.co.uk Download The App Amateur Riders’ Handicap where a fine display was given by multiple winning champion Simon Walker to win with Belgravian for Archie Watson by 1 1/4 lengths from Billy Garritty on Ingleby Spring with Molly Stratton and Mr Andros 2 1/4 lengths back in third.

This success was a significant second success of the season for Simon closing the gap on Serena Brotherton’s 4 win lead for the All-Weather championship, and with plenty of the season remaining it should be an interesting one to follow.

Congratulations to winning connections!

Tommie O’Brien wins with Thomas Patrick at Exeter

Well done to Tommie O’Brien winning at Exeter on Thomas Patrick on Sunday on his handicap debut for Tom Lacey in the Happy 75th Birthday Belinda Lyon Smith Handicap Hurdle.

Making all in the field of 10 that went to post, the partnership stayed on strongly from the last to win by 4 lengths. Congratulations to winning connections.

Zac Baker wins again with Robinshill at Ludlow

26-11-2017

Monday saw the reappearance of Robinshill partnered by leading gentleman amateur Zac Baker at Ludlow in the totequadpot Handicap Chase for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies.

This was Robinshill’s 3rd consecutive run at Ludlow and his 2nd with Zac partnering him to victory here 3 weeks ago. They nearly came unstuck at the last when the horse blundered in what is now his habitual style at Ludlow, but with Zac’s long legs helping his stickability he was able to drive his horse out to go on and win comfortably by 5 lengths.

“I don’t know why why he does that at the last fence” Zac said. “He was a bit cautious but he had been out on his own a long time. It might have also been jumping out of this sticky ground.”

Well done Zac on a great win!

Page Fuller extends lead in ladies jump title with win at Huntingdon

25-11-2017

Well done leading lady and reigning champion Page Fuller on winning today’s Woodhurst Construction Lady Riders’ Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles at Huntingdon with STAR FOOT trained by Jo Davis.

A thrilling finish with Page having galvanised her horse into action from 3 out saw the partnership hold on by a neck to deny Irish raiders Shark Hanlon and Rachael Blackmore on last year’s victor BABY JAKE with Brodie Hampson and FOOL TO CRY just a length away third.

Congratulations to Page who forges ahead with her lead in the ladies’ title challenge, now on 7 wins so far this season. 🏆👏

They also won the Best Turned Out. (Kit previously won on this horse at Ayr back in March last year.)

Many congratulations to winning connections.

Lewis Stones wins at Fakenham

22-11-2017

Congratulations to Lewis Stones on a good ride at Fakenham yesterday when winning the East Rudham Amateur Riders’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle aboard MULLAGHBOY for Oliver Murphy.

With a disappointing field of only 4 for this reasonably valuable race, Lewis help his horse up throughout most of the race before closing in on the leading pair of Ally Stirling aboard CHILLI ROMANCE and Hugo Hunt on BARDD as they turned for home. With his horse jumping the last the best of his rivals, Lewis then kicked for home and won by 1 3/4 lengths from CHILLI ROMANCE with BARDD a similar distance in third.

Well done Lewis.
